Search Engine Optimization- an overview
Search engine optimization, commonly referred to as SEO, is the process by which the volume as well as the quality of traffic that a website attracts can be worked upon. It refers to the methods by which the ranking of the websites is achieved. If a website appears earlier in the search results, it will draw more traffic by attracting more number of visitors. This is true in case of searches conducted not only for texts but also for image search, local search etc. Ranking in searches allow a website to make its web presence felt on the World Wide Web.
When you are optimizing a website, you are basically modifying its contents as well as the HTML codes. This is usually done to enhance its relevance to particular key phrases and to facilitate indexing activities of the search engine.
On page optimization
On-page optimization also referred to as on-page SEO refers to the changes that can be made on the web pages. This is usually done to enhance the performance of contents for targeted keywords.
Off page optimization
Off-page optimization also referred to as off-page SEO refers to the changes that can be made on the web pages to better the performance of targeted keywords in the content as well as keywords related to “off-page direct links”.
Search engine optimization in brand management
Although search engine optimization can be used as a marketing strategy, it is not the right kind of marketing tool for all websites. Studies have proved that users while searching on the net scan the search result list from top to bottom and also from the left to right. So, if a website is at the top of the list, the probability is high that it will be noticed by maximum visitors. However, if a website has more number of visitors doesn’t mean that the website will be able to sell more products.
